Situational Awareness in Focus: PMRT No°5 Features Immersive Live Simulation with International Expert
On June 26, 2025, the 5th Patient Monitoring Roundtable of the year will take place at the Berlin Simulation and Training Center (BeST). The event is dedicated to the theme “Recognizing What Matters Early – Experiencing Situational Awareness in Action” and brings together experts from clinical practice, research, and industry to discuss current topics in vital sign monitoring and digital healthcare innovation in a hands-on setting.
Why Situational Awareness is Critical in Patient Monitoring
Situational awareness – the ability to perceive, interpret, and anticipate clinically relevant information in context – is crucial in high-pressure settings such as emergency medicine, intensive care, and the operating room. Despite technological advances, fragmented data, alarm overload, and unclear responsibilities remain key risk factors for patient safety.
The question of how healthcare professionals can maintain an overview in complex, high-stress situations is more relevant than ever. This is exactly where the Roundtable comes in – with a unique event format that combines knowledge sharing, simulation, and reflective discussion.
Three Key Features That Make This Event Unique
Real-Time Crisis Resource Management Simulation
Right at the beginning, participants will experience a realistic simulation of a clinical emergency scenario, conducted in the intensive care simulation room at BeST. The exercise will be streamed live as well as performed onsite, providing an opportunity to observe and analyze situational awareness under real-time conditions.Immediately following the simulation, a structured debriefing will be led by Dr. Torsten Schröder, Head of BeST, experienced anesthesiologist and emergency physician, and Dr. Evjenia Toubekis, senior physician in pediatric anesthesiology and intensive care at Charité.
Keynote and Debriefing with PD Dr. David Tscholl
A highlight of the evening is the keynote by PD Dr. med. David W. Tscholl, senior physician at the University Hospital Zurich and an internationally recognized researcher in the field of visualized vital data.
Dr. Tscholl has played a key role in the development of systems such as Visual Patient, Visual Clot, and Visual Blood—technologies that have been proven to reduce the cognitive load on medical teams and enhance diagnostic accuracy.Hands-on Workshops for Developing New Monitoring Concepts
In the second part of the evening, participants will have the opportunity to explore concrete scenarios in small groups.
What could data-driven, adaptive patient monitoring look like in the future? What are the requirements for integrating such systems into existing infrastructures? And what roles do visualization, team training, and decision support play?
The workshops offer space for critical discussion and collaborative solution development.
Who should attend?
Clinicians who use or want to improve monitoring systems in daily practice
Medical technology and health IT companies seeking deeper insight into clinical needs and perspectives
Nurses, who are often the first to notice critical changes
Patient representatives, who contribute the viewpoint of those affected
Researchers, who help shape the evidence base for new systems
And everyone interested in exploring and shaping the future of patient monitoring over the next 5 to 10 years in an interdisciplinary setting.
